Frequently Asked Questions

Most patients can expect to return to work or school between one to three days after surgery. Nonetheless, it is advised that any strenuous activity is withheld for the first week, at which point normal routines are progressively resumed thereafter.

Wisdom tooth extraction can take between 20–45 minutes depending on how many teeth you need to have removed. In addition to administering anesthesia and the resting period afterward, you can expect to be in the office for 60–90 minutes total.

IV sedation will render you into a semi-conscious to unconscious state. We can titrate the level of sedation according to your preference. After the sedation wears off, you will likely no memory of the surgery. We will use local anesthesia in addition to numb the surgical sites. At the beginning of your surgery and once you are asleep, your surgeon will administer a local anesthetic which will numb the area for several hours and will help with recovery.

A dry socket occurs when the blood clot forming within an empty tooth socket becomes dislodged, exposing the bone underneath. Be sure to avoid straws or smoking while healing, as the suction could dislodge the blood clot and cause a dry socket. Call our office if you suspect a dry socket at any point throughout your recovery.

How Will My Surgeon Determine Whether I am a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Your dental implant journey will begin with an oral surgery consultation. During this conversation, your oral surgeon will ask questions about your medical history, review medical images, and perform a physical examination of your teeth and gums.

This information is used to verify your eligibility for dental implant treatment. Some patients may qualify for dental implant placement without additional steps, and other patients may need preparatory procedures performed first. After reviewing everything, your surgeon will discuss with you your options for implant treatment. Your treatment plan is customized to your unique oral health circumstances to better promote optimal results from dental implant surgery.
