How Does PRP and PRF Work?
Platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin are blood products made using the patient’s own blood. Prior to your surgical procedure, your oral surgeon will draw a small blood sample. Drawing this small blood sample is very quick and will not require anesthesia. This blood is spun in a centrifuge, which separates the blood components into different layers.
Immediately after your surgeon closes the wound, we will apply the concentrated plasma or fibrin directly to the surgical area. Administering your own natural growth factors to a specific area stimulates / accelerates the healing process and decreases postoperative pain.

The Difference Between PRP and PRF

PRP requires a bigger blood sample than PRF and is spun at a higher speed in the centrifuge. This separates the blood more distinctly, whereas PRF is spun at a slower speed to allow some white blood cells and stem cells to remain in the sample. Spinning the blood at a lower speed also causes less trauma to the individual cells.
