Our surgeons have hospital privileges at local hospitals, including Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Elliot Hospital, and Tufts Medical Center. This privilege allows them to use hospital rooms and equipment to perform complex surgical procedures for additional safety. Some patients avoid receiving the care they need because of previous traumatic experiences or a fear of pain. To provide you with the care you need through a positive and comfortable experience, we offer anesthesia options to all of our patients for any type of procedure. Anesthesia involves using medication to help patients relax during dental procedures.

Who Can Provide Anesthesia?
Many dentists are qualified to use local anesthesia and laughing gas, often for tooth extractions or to provide pain relief in the event of a dental emergency. Oral surgeons, however, are the only dental professionals qualified to administer all forms of anesthesia. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons undergo specialized training to administer anesthesia and sedation while monitoring patients for their health and safety. If a patient requires general anesthesia, a dentist will often refer the patient to an oral surgeon.
How Safe Is Anesthesia?
Having concern about the safety of any surgical procedure is normal. Our oral surgeons are qualified dental professionals and we are here to put you at ease and help you feel confident about your health and safety. We monitor your vital signs during surgery and have oxygen and medication available to reverse the effects of sedation if necessary. During your first visit, we go over your medical history, current medications, and any conditions that would interfere with the use of sedation. Dr. Garibyan or Dr. Kuang will ensure that the choice of sedation is safe for your specific needs and overall health.
