Tooth Extraction

Adult teeth ideally last a lifetime; however, dental trauma or disease may cause damage to a tooth that is beyond repair. If a tooth is too damaged, decayed, or infected to restore, our surgeons can safely and comfortably extract it in the comfort of our office in Groton, MA. We can also replace the tooth with a dental implant, so you can achieve a complete and healthy smile.

Needing a tooth extracted may seem stressful, but it is a fairly common dental procedure and one that we see often at Premier Center for Oral, Dental Implant & Facial Surgery. Our team will walk you through each step and make sure you feel comfortable. We offer many anesthesia and sedation options, so you can feel at ease during your procedure. Contact us today for a consultation with Dr. Garibyan and Dr. Kuang.

When is Tooth Extraction Necessary?

Broken teeth can often be repaired with a filling, a dental crown, or treatment from a restorative dentist. If the tooth cannot be saved, extraction may be recommended. Reasons why a tooth may require extraction can include:

Undergoing Tooth Extraction

In some cases, we can extract a tooth the same day as the consultation. We may take 3D scans of your mouth to assess the structure of your teeth and face, if indicated. If extraction is necessary, we will discuss your anesthesia options. Most tooth extractions often only require a local anesthetic, which numbs the surgical site, but we offer a variety of choices for your comfort. We offer PRP/PRF treatments to speed up the recovery process after having a tooth extracted. Ask us about these natural growth factors during your first visit

Types of Anesthesia

Our practice offers a variety of anesthesia and sedation options.

Tooth Replacement Options After Tooth Extraction

Following tooth extraction, you have several options to consider. Our team will explain each option in detail so you can make an informed decision on what’s right for you, your smile, and your budget.

Dental Implant

A dental implant is a long-term tooth replacement that restores a tooth’s appearance and function. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that prevents bone loss because they are embedded into the jaw. This provides a strong foundation for the new tooth, allowing you to enjoy all your favorite foods without discomfort or removable appliances. With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime. If there is adequate jaw bone, we can insert an immediate implant the same day as your tooth extraction.

Fixed Dental Bridge

A bridge can replace one or more teeth by using a metal framework to hold the false teeth. This framework is cemented in place to your existing teeth, requiring your teeth to be shaved down to fit the bridge. You must make sure to clean around the bridge to avoid bacteria becoming trapped around the framework. Dental bridges can restore the appearance of your smile, but will not restore full functionality and do not prevent bone loss.

Dentures

Full or partial dentures sit on top of the bony ridge in the mouth. Removable dentures are taken out during eating and brushing, and you must clean them using special products. You should replace dentures every few years due to wear and tear, and if not professionally fitted each time, your dentures may slip or cause sores. Although dentures are cheaper upfront, they do not prevent bone loss or preserve facial structure.

No Replacement

If you do not wish to replace the missing tooth immediately, we can perform socket preservation after the extraction. This involves placing bone grafting material into the empty socket to preserve its size and shape, making future implant placement easier. Having a missing tooth may lead to your other teeth shifting out of position, resulting in a poor bite. Without a tooth root or implant in place, the jaw bone will weaken over time.

Lynn Reviews Her Tooth Extraction Procedure

Watch Review

"My name is Lynn. I'm from Townsend, Massachusetts, and I have been here twice for extractions. When I first walked in, I was put quite at ease by the receptionist and everybody followed through with making me really comfortable. Dr. G has been—he's humorous, he's confident, and he has taken care of me exactly in the way that I needed to be taken care of. He took the tooth out. He got rid of the infection. And I really felt that I was ready to go on with everything right after that. I would highly recommend the Premier Center for Oral & Facial Surgery."
