When you lose a tooth, it can impact both the function and the aesthetics of your smile, potentially affecting your self-confidence along with your ability to bite and chew. Fortunately, dental implant technology provides a robust and reliable form of tooth replacement, providing natural-looking results while letting you enjoy all your favorite foods as normal.

At Premier Center for Oral, Dental Implants & Facial Surgery, we provide people in Massachusetts and New Hampshire with dental implants as a tooth replacement option. Our board-certified oral & maxillofacial surgeons place dental implants with an emphasis on clinical precision, patient safety, and comfort. We are pleased to provide state-of-the-art care to anyone in Fitchburg, Westford, Chelmsford, Leominster, Nashua, and Groton.

Why Are Dental Implants the Preferred Method of Tooth Replacement?

Dental implant technology has advanced considerably, making it the gold standard for tooth replacement. A dental implant functions as an artificial tooth root, providing a secure place to anchor a crown. This artificial replacement tooth is made by your dentist to look and behave just like your natural teeth.

Dental implants are the preferred option because they represent a fixed (not removable) solution, as they are aesthetically pleasing and easy to keep clean. Unlike other tooth replacement options, implants do not require any healthy, adjacent teeth to be shaved down or compromised.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Our practice uses the revolutionary X-Guide system designed by X-Nav Technologies, which is the most advanced dental implant technology available. This dynamic 3D navigation system provides more accurate dental implant surgery by providing turn-by-turn guidance to your oral surgeon. While placing a dental implant, your surgeon has a 360-degree live view of your anatomy and guidance that improves the accuracy of implant position, angle, and depth.

X-Guide also makes same-day guided surgery a possibility for more patients at a fraction of the cost of traditional surgical guides. This technology benefits patients in numerous ways.

How Will My Surgeon Determine Whether I am a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Your dental implant journey will begin with an oral surgery consultation. During this conversation, your oral surgeon will ask questions about your medical history, review medical images, and perform a physical examination of your teeth and gums.

This information is used to verify your eligibility for dental implant treatment. Some patients may qualify for dental implant placement without additional steps, and other patients may need preparatory procedures performed first. After reviewing everything, your surgeon will discuss with you your options for implant treatment. Your treatment plan is customized to your unique oral health circumstances to better promote optimal results from dental implant surgery.

The Entire Dental Implants Process

Dental Implant Placement

We perform pre-planning for every dental implant surgery, carefully mapping out the contours of your mouth and making a 3-D printed guide with the aid of an implant navigational system to ensure accuracy in the implant placement. Not only does this provide more consistent and precise results, but it also means an abbreviated surgery time, a more comfortable procedure, and a reduced risk of complication.

The implants themselves are carefully placed into the jawbone using the 3-D guide and navigational system. They are then left to heal in place for a couple of months. Temporary replacement teeth may be provided if you are interested in them while the dental implants fuse with the jawbone.

Recovery and Aftercare

While dental implants heal, it is normal to experience a few days of swelling. Some physical discomfort is also normal, but most patients are able to mediate this pain with nothing more than Ibuprofen and Tylenol.

Our doctors will invite you back for a follow-up appointment after two-three weeks to verify that your dental implants are healing properly.

Abutment Attachment & Final Restorations

Once your dental implants have fully healed, fusing to the surrounding bone tissue, your general dentist will attach an abutment to the implant. This is a connective piece used to secure the implant to the artificial prosthesis.

Your final replacement tooth will be carefully rendered by your general dentist, designed to blend seamlessly with your other teeth. Your dentist will perform the final restoration, connecting this prosthesis to the abutment.
